Michael has had an affection for Motorcycles from an early age. His Father who was a road racer had Michael and his brothers [Eugene and John] riding bikes shortly after they could walk. Michael starting to race at the age of 10 years old until then he had only raced his brothers on a nearby field at his family home in Toomebridge, Northern Ireland.
After a 6-year Schoolboy Motocross career, Michael still uses many of the principles in today’s racing. At just 16 Michael made the switch from motocross to racing on tarmac. It was a family run effort which was mostly funded by his parents, Michael wasn’t brought up to be a professional motorcycle rider, He continued his studies and racing was a hobby, It wasn’t until 2003 when he got picked up by Honda and in 2004 signed his first professional contract.
Since then racing motorcycles has been more than Michael’s hobby, for the last 14 years he has continued to dominate the MotoGP and now British Superbike Championships, In 2007 he also gained the title of British Supersport Champion riding for Suzuki and Relentless Racing. as well as being awarded the title of ‘Irish Motorcyclist os the year’ in 2005 and 2007
